What is a template? Back to topTemplates are website-wide graphical themes. They incorporate most of the graphic elements (headers, footers, images, etc.), menu styles, colors, patterns, etc. that make up the overall look of a Tremendous Web! created website. We use themes from many third party theme developers as well as those that come packaged with RapidWeaver. If you find a RapidWeaver compatible theme that you want to use on your site and thats not already included in our template galleries, let us know and we can probably get it for you and incorporate it into your website.

What is a domain? Back to topA domain name is your unique place on the web. Although technically not a web address, it's useful to think of it this way. Generally speaking a domain name will look something like "mydomain.com" or "mydomain.org" with mydomain replaced by the actual domain name. For instance, tremendousweb.com is our domain name. We purchased this name from our "domain name registrar". When you decide to create a place on the web for yourself, you'll have to choose a domain name, see if it's available or not and then pay for it. If you'd like, we can do all of this for you at no extra charge, other than the domain registration fee*.
*If you choose package 2, 3 or 4 one free year of hosting is included as is the domain registration. -
Can I update my own site? Back to topYes, to a certain extent. If you'd like we can build your site to include a blog (or many blogs) which allows you to add entires (including photos) from a web browser. This means that where ever you might be in the world, if you have access to a computer thats connected to the internet, you can update your site. We can also build into your site a content management system (CMS). A CMS option allows you to update the content on many of your webpages. It differs from a blog in that instead of a series of dated entries, with the most recent at the top, the content you add will look like a "normal" webpage. For example, the text area on our homepage could be made to allow updates from a web browser without the need for knowing any html or having access to the software and files used to create the webpage.
A CMS system adds a powerful option to your website. As such it adds a bit to the cost of your website; usually less than $95 dollars. For more information or to ask questions about a CMS please visit our Contact page. -
How long will it take to get up and running? Back to topDepending on the options you choose and the package, you can be up and running in a matter of days. Larger sites with more options will logically take longer but should be up and running within 2 weeks or so.

What is a Standard Page? Back to topWhen viewed on a 24" monitor (at 1920 X 1200 resolution) A standard sized page is roughly equivalent to an 8 1/2 by 11 inch piece of paper. In concrete terms, each page may include up to 1000 words (client supplied copy), 3-5 images (client supllied) appropriatly sized for internet viewing and 3-5 similarly sized graphic elements (client supplied). If you have questions about what "appropriatly sized" means or what size a standard size page really is please contact us.
Keep in mind that package pricing does NOT include us creating your copy. If you want this service we can help but there will be additional charges. Content and copy creation and any other hourly labor will be billed at $75 per hour. You will be billed for 1 hour minimum and after that we prorate to the nearest quarter hour.
Also keep in mind that when talking about "size" and webpages there is no way to precisely equate inches to pixels (what webpages and content are measured by). See our sample site for examples of what Standard Size Page actually means. For reference this entire FAQ page has just over 1000 words.
NOTE: E-commerce pages incur additional costs and are not considered a standard page. -
What is a parent page? Back to topAny webpage that's located at the top level of your website. Most of the pages here at Tremendous Web are located at the top level and are parent pages. Your website visitors really won't notice the difference between parent and child webpages, but as you think about the structure of your website it's useful to think in terms of parent and children. For the most part, this comes into play in website navigation. For instance, if you have an "About" page, you might have a "Media" sub page dedicated to displaying information specifically designed for media. You wouldn't need or want the Media page to be a separate top-level page but a sub-page of the About page. The easiest way to visualize this is to imagine a table of contents of a magazine: each main heading or section of the table of contents is analogous to a Parent page and each article below and contained within that section would be a child page.
